Farming is difficult work, and each year, many farm workers become injured on-the-job. Although working on a farm is often a rewarding way to support a family, it can be dangerous, and even deadly, if landowners, operators, and farm equipment manufacturers do not take safety seriously.
Eye and Ear Injuries
There are many common eye and ear injuries that can happen on a farm. Farmers are at risk for work-related eye injuries, some of which can be very serious. Eye and ear injury can come from working with chemicals and machinery, welding, animals, and from just working in dusty conditions. Many injuries come from a foreign object getting into the eye or ear and causing some damage. If something were to happen to your eye or ear, you would be taken out of work for a few days and insurance will help you to be able to survive those few days without being overwhelmed with hospital bills.
Animal Bites and Stings
Despite their small size, some of the insects ranking higher on the Insect Pain Index can deliver crippling stings and bites. Animal bites need to be taken care of at a hospital to check for any diseases that might have been transferred and to give stitches or perform surgery. It’s important to have insurance in case an animal bite or sting is more serious than you think it is and you need to see a doctor.
Falls
There are many situations where farmworkers need to climb great heights to accomplish their tasks. Unfortunately, this means that falls from heights are some of the most common farming accidents and these falls can leave workers with broken bones, brain injuries, and many other severe injuries. Many farmers and farm workers suffer serious injuries from falls from farm equipment, bins, ladders, and many other places. Since falls are so common and can result in serious injury, it’s a good idea to have insurance, just in case. Insurance will help protect you if you do happen to suffer a fall while working on a farm.
Working on a farm can be very dangerous work and it’s important to have insurance. There are so many cases where insurance will come in handy, such as, eye and ear injuries, animal bites and stings, and falls. Farmers need insurance so they can be protected.
